Jim Peterson has vast knowledge and experience across the entire investment spectrum. For many decades, Jim has been involved in making major investment decisions for both large financial institutions and individual investors.
Jim began his professional career by serving for eight years as an investment analyst at a major money management institution. There he did primary research, made recommendations and advised the portfolio managers on their stock equity holdings.
He was a founder and General Partner of Peterson Properties of Atlanta, GA, which developed, leased and managed in excess of four million square feet of commercial buildings. Peterson Properties was sold in 1996 for in excess of $146 million.
Jim served as a Managing Director of CarrAmerica (“CRE”), an NYSE listed real estate investment trust. There he was responsible for its Florida operations including the purchase of in excess of $300 million in investment properties. CRE was sold to Blackstone for in excess of $5 Billion.
Jim also served as a Director and as the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Investment Life of America (“ILA”), where he was the managing director of an investment income portfolio with a value of in excess of $100 million.
Jim has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and an MBA from the University of Texas – Austin. He holds a Real Estate License and a General Contractors License in the State of Florida.

During my work experience in Marshall County, I spent time in the jewelry business with Griffin’s Jewelers, the publishing business with PIC Publications, the office equipment and supply business with Office Equipment Company, and the trucking and auto transportation business with Lake City Trucking, Follow Thru Transportation Systems and in Etowah County, Alaplex Transportation, Inc..
For almost 11 years I served as the Safety Director for automobile transport company Alaplex Transportation, Inc. in Sardis City, AL. During this time I made the daily drive essentially from one end of Marshall County to just beyond the other end. In 2011 Alaplex sold to the Gulf States Toyota Transport out of Houston, TX who in January of 2012, closed the Sardis location. At 56 years old it was time to reinvent. I had a strong interest in computers since the early 1990’s and chose to go back to school at Snead State Community College through the State of Alabama’s WIA program. Proudly, I was able to graduate in August 2014 summa cum laude with an Associate Degree in Applied Science, Computer Science Tech.
In our current economy jobs are not easy to come by for any age group, but I found the market for guys nearing 60, even more of a challenge.
